Overview
This is a challenging loop with several steep sections as you travel up and around the ridge, down to Evans Creek, and then back up to the top of the ridge and back down to the start.
Need to Know
- There are multiple spurs and OHV tracks in this area that can be misleading.
- For a shorter loop, turn to the right at the end of the Quail Valley Trail to follow the Cold Valley Trail back to the start (2.4 miles).
Description
Park at the small pullout where Sierra Pine Dr makes a sharp turn. Take the
Quail Valley Trail that heads east (left) down the hill and then up towards the power lines. There are several steep and rocky sections at the beginning, and then the trail flattens out and heads toward a wooded area.
Follow the main trail down a short slope and immediately after crossing Evans Creek, make a right turn onto the
Aspen Grove Trail and head up a long, mild grade. You'll pass through a wooded area with willows and pines and pass another intersection at the
Hunter Lake Trail; stay right on the
Hunter Lake Trail. You'll head up another steep and rocky section to arrive at the top of the ridge. Follow the ridge north and enjoy beautiful views of the Washoe Valley. Make your way back down the hill to where you started.
