Description

This trail follows the perimeter of the Dahlonega Reservoir. Start in 1 of 2 parking lots, where you'll be able to see the well established trail as it makes its way around the lake. You'll begin your hike along the shoreline, and continue on the trail to where it crosses the scenic creek that is approximately 1/2 way through the route. After the creek crossing, continue on your journey until you finish in the other parking lot.

From the opposite parking lot, your best return option is to head alongside the road for approximately 1/2 mile to return to your starting point. Although it is in city limits, you'll feel well isolated and in the wilderness for much of the trail. Steep climbs are fairly short and accomplishable, just don't stop and you'll get a break at the top! This route is an especially great Appalachian Trail (AT) simulation for those training to embark on the longer trail.

Distance:
- Parking lot to parking lot/boat ramp: approximately 3.1 miles
- Full circle back to starting point: approximately 3.5 miles

Flora & Fauna

North Georgia flora/fauna. Kudzu, poison ivy/oak, tall hardwoods. Beautiful fall colors late October to mid November.
