River/Creek
Description
Summit Loop Trail is a segment of the trail system at Medoc Mountain State Park. This trail is accessed via Stream Loop and then Discovery Loop Trail. You'll hike nearly a mile or so on these trails, mostly parallel to Fisher Creek....which appears to be a deep creek/small river....not seen to be passable on foot. You must follow these trails to access a bridge , which gives access to
Summit Loop on the other side of the creek. I wish the park had a bridge earlier to access
Summit Loop.
Once across the bridge, you are faced with 3 trail options, straight ahead and also to right both being the start/end point of
Summit Loop. I chose to go straight ahead which created a clockwise trek of
Summit Loop. The trail quickly ascends up to about 300 feet of elevation, including some steps built into the trail to ease access. At the top, two benches are conveniently placed for visitors. I had hoped for a scenic overlook but none was seen or found.
The path from that point is more of a dirt road, wide and clean. The trail from this point is nearly flat with forest sloping away on both sides. Look for a small cemetery on the right side... this is your path to return. No real signage... I missed it the first time... only a small stub post with arrow to mark trail bearing off to your right. From here, the trail descends in a circular fashion until you are again parallel with the creek, and a relatively flat return to the bridge.
