Description

The Rainbow Knoll Trail is located off the Seven Springs Trail in the Fremont Older Open Space Preserve. The trail provides great views of the Silicon Valley and escapes the crowds of the preserve because it dead ends at the preserve boundary. Even though the map shows the trail can loop around, that area has been closed.

As it leaves the Seven Springs Trail, it passes through a fence line and cuts to the left and begins descending down the hillside. Flowers can be seen along the trailside in the spring. The trail is a narrow, dirt track as it makes its way out toward a high line electrical tower. The trail climbs up a small hill and arrives at signs providing information about the preserve. Here, the trail forks. The trail to the left descends a short distance and meets up with a wooden fence that separates the preserve from private property and isn't worth taking unless you are the land owner. The trail to the right leads out to the electrical tower, wraps around it, and then descends steeply along the preserve boundary. The trail begins to level out before it comes to an end at the preserve boundary. The only option you have is to follow the trail back to Seven Springs Trail.

The views on the trail are nice and the trail isn't as busy as other ones in the preserve due to the fact that it dead ends.

Flora & Fauna

Lizards and snakes can be seen in the spring and summer during warmer weather.

Flowers can be found along the trail in the spring time.
