Family Friendly
An enjoyable family hike, especially if you stopped for lunch at the Trillium Trail Parking area.
Description
Access this multi-use (pedestrian/bike) trail from the marked trailhead at the Elk Meadow Day Use Area. It can also be accessed around the ~2.75-mile marker using the
Streelow Creek Trail, which starts off Davison Road 1.5 miles up from Hwy 101.
This trail follows the route of a retired logging road that originally was used to access a lumber mill and log deck. The land was purchased by the National Parks Service in 1996 after which a huge initiative was started to rehabilitate the surrounding environment.
Bending through healthy stands of redwoods and thick groves of streamside alder trees, this path provides access to Lost Man Creek, Trillium Falls (no bicycles), and past Elk Prairie to the Prairie Creek Visitor Center.
Flora & Fauna
Hikers can spot salmon, herons, and a number of songbirds throughout the recovering wetlands and forests.
