River views and a cool bridge at the east end of the hike make this a winner for kids.
Description
Access this trail from the trailhead before the west end of the Hiouchi Bridge on Hwy 199 off the
Hatton Trail. During the summer months, there is a seasonal footbridge that provides access from the Jedediah Smith Campground.
This is a lovely trail that heads next to the beautifully turquoise Smith River. Along the way, you can expect views of both the riparian (near-stream) forest and the old-growth redwoods.
The southern end of this one connects to the
River Trail and
Mill Creek Trail JSSP near the Stout Grove Trailhead and parking area.
Flora & Fauna
California bay, tanoak, Douglas-fir, Pacific madrone. From later summer through fall the alal, huckleberry, and thimbleberry attract lots of wildlife.
