Camping is not permitted at Easy Pass. The nearest backcountry campsite is Fisher Camp, located 2 miles southwest of Easy Pass.

Overview

Less popular than nearby Maple Pass Loop and Cutthroat Pass, Easy Pass is nevertheless a classic North Cascades hike. It's one of the few day hikes that access the interior of the national park (and all of its alpine glory) from Highway 20.

Need to Know

A Northwest Forest Pass is required for parking. Restrooms available at trailhead. Best hiked July - October. The pass is located on the boundary of North Cascades National Park, where dogs are not allowed.

Description

Curiously less crowded than trailheads just down the road (Rainy Pass and Blue Lake), Easy Pass has a reputation for being anything but easy. Maybe that's what keeps the crowds away; Easy Pass Trail gains nearly 3,000 ft. in 3.6 miles. But it's worth the effort for panoramic views of Fisher Basin and the seemingly endless peaks, glaciers, and valleys of North Cascades National Park.

The trail begins easily enough in the forest, crossing a bridge over Granite Creek. Switchbacks begin after the bridge. After about 1.5 miles, the forest opens up to sloped meadows and views of Easy Pass above. Continue climbing through increasingly steep, rocky terrain to the pass at 3.6 miles.

Wander amongst the larches (golden in autumn) and peer deep into the Fisher Basin to glaciated Mount Logan. The Fisher Creek Trail - a long-distance backpacking route - continues west from here, dropping into the valley. Turn around at the pass, or follow Fisher Creek Trail to your heart's content.
