Description

The Bicentennial Greenway is the backbone of the trail system between High Point and Greensboro, including Gibson Park, the Piedmont Environmental Center and the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park. The Bicentenntial Greenway begins on the shore of City Lake in Jamestown at the Piedmont Environmental Center. The wide paved trail is multi-use, so be mindful of bicyclists along the route. This well-shaded trail is located in parks and woodlands and provides a welcome respite from the heat of a North Carolina summer.

The visitor center of Piedmont Environmental Center is at located at 0.3 miles. Many additional singletrack trails can be accessed from this trailhead. The greenway travels north through the woods and passes the Jamestown Park golf course following the shore of City Lake. The greenway crosses East Fork Road at the end of the golf course and turns uphill toward the Jamestown Park parking lot.

The greenway then continues north through the North Preserve of the Environmental Center before entering Gibson Park. There is an additional parking access and restroom facilities at Gibson Park. The greenway then passes under Wendover Avenue, traveling alongside the upper reaches of the Deep River. There is additional parking available at Piedmont Parkway.

The trail continues following the sidewalk along Chimney Rock Road and Boulder Road. There is a short section where a road must be completed on Burnt Poplar Road and Swing Road. The greenway begins again at Market Street and follows the sidewalk along Swing Road and Western Guilford High School. Past the high school, the trail goes through city parks and beside neighborhoods through western Greensboro paralleling the course of Horsepen Creek.

After crossing over Old Battleground Avenue, the trail takes a turn to the south and follows the Atlantic and Yadkin Greenway before ending at the parking lot at Guliford Courthouse National Military Park.
