Description

This is the start of the Tapteal Trail from Bateman Island to Benton City. Park at either the upper or lower Wye Park parking lot. This trail starts at about mile 16 of the Sacagawea Heritage Trail. After crossing the Yakima River follow the turn down to the right, go under the bridge and over the railroad tracks. Just past the tracks drop off the pavement and head to the end of the chain link fence. This is the southwest corner of the Chamna Natural Preserve. Be prepared for a lot of traffic noise but portions of this trail provide excellent views of the Yakima River delta.
