Description

The Walker Trail connects the Peaks Loop and Jordan Trail at Horton Grove, and ends at the Justice Loop. The Walker Trail winds through an excellent example of a mature oak-hickory forest. Towering white and red oaks stand side by side with shortleaf pine and hickory trees.

The low areas between the ridges hold several streams as well as several species of ferns and other wet-natured species. The Walker Tail provides the opportunity to see the formerly dominant ecosystem of the Piedmont of North Carolina, which is in severe decline.

Lovely walk relatively flat. Even in 95 degree heat the canopy made it at least 10 degrees cooler.
