Description
From the Millville Peak Road FR 168, this newly constructed/renovated road goes up around the backside of Logan Peak to the top of the peak. It starts out in a pretty sparsely vegetated area but soon passes by small groves of trees and evergreen forests. The road has a couple of switchbacks in it as it reaches the peak, which makes the grade of the road very gradual. Although sections might get a little boring for hikers, it's a blast for hiking down and easily manageable on the way up. After winding around the back side of the peak, the road hooks around and reaches the peak where there is a large tower and a small building that has some weather instruments and other things associated with it. There is also an odd, mailbox looking thing at the top that has a summit log in it, but sometimes nothing to write with.
From the summit of Logan Peak, some of the greatest views in the Bear River Range can be found since it is pretty isolated from other tall peaks in the area. You can see down into Logan Canyon, a lot of the northern end of the Bear River Range, almost all of Cache Valley, and on clear days, even out into the Uintas and the Wasatch ranges. The winds up on Logan Peak are also very strong and make the stay at the top uncomfortable at times, but the views make it worth it. There is usually snow at the top late into the summer due to the cornices that form up on top from the wind and snow.
