Overview
This is a great hike for all to enjoy. The trail features good footing, trail diversity, spring wildflowers, lizards, maybe a desert bighorn....and sandstone walls to check out.
Need to Know
Bring plenty of water as this area can be hot and dry in the summer months. The footing is generally great.
Description
From the Pollock Bench Trailhead, follow the F1 signage left from the parking area. Stay on the trail and simply enjoy. Hikers will find some trail braiding, but it all reconnects. The signage is very good. The trail winds around and up and down gently through Flume Canyon.
You can choose to hike the loop either direction. The following is for hiking in a counterclockwise direction. Be sure to stay left the intersection with Trail F2 about 1.75 miles in (taking F2 leads to a longer option that connects to the Pollock Bench P1 trail, which allows a longer hike back to the parking lot).
Another .75 miles (approximately) brings hikers to the junction with the
D1 - Devils Canyon junction. Stay left here and follow F1 toward the parking (D1 will bring hikers into the Devils Canyon area; a link-up will be longer and involve dirt road time).
Flora & Fauna
Plenty of spring wildflowers. You'll definitely see a variety of smaller lizards. Maybe some desert bighorn. Mountain lions are a possibility.
