Need to Know

There is parking available at the beginning of the trail adjacent to the Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church with picnic tables. There is also a gravel parking lot a short distance south on US 27 for Sheltowee Trace NRT: Section 30. This is a good place to park for extra trail distance. There is no parking near the end of Section 31. In fact, there is nothing at all but wilderness.

Big Creek near the end has no bridge. You might be able to get across it dry when the water is low. Early in the year or after a rain, however, the only way across is to get your feet wet.

Description

Section 31 starts at US 27 and ends at the National Park boundary. The trail starts easy but gets a bit more difficult a short ways in. Much of it is at a moderate level, but there are a few challenging spots consisting of multiple stream crossings and rock gardens.

This is a short connector between US 27 and Big South Fork NRRA boundary. Once you get away from the highway, there is a real outback in-the-wilderness feel to it. The end is marked with an obvious large wooden sign that says "NPS Boundary".
