A pleasant hike through open fields and along the wooded banks of the Monocacy River with views towards Catoctin Mountain.
Description
From the trailhead parking lot, proceed northwest down the gravel road. In 0.4 mile, you'll pass the junction with return leg of loop. At mile 0.6, bear right off of road onto the trail at edge of woods and in another 0.3 mile arrive at junction with
Middle Ford Ferry Loop Trail.
Bear left onto the
Middle Ford Ferry Loop Trail and descend to old road bed of Monocacy River. At mile 1.2, follow the road around a bend and ascend for 0.1 mi. back to
Thomas Farm Loop. Proceed southeast along the edge of field and in 0.4 mile, bear right and continue to parallel tree line. At mile 1.9, arrive at junction with farm road, bear right and proceed 0.4 mi, back to the trailhead parking.

This 1864 Civil War battlefield encompasses several centuries of history that reflect on events of both local and national significance. Come experience 1,647 acres of rolling farm fields, historic buildings, and sweeping panoramas along the scenic Monocacy River.
