Family Friendly
While kids might not be up for the full two miles, you can easily do a shorter out and back from the trailhead.
Description
The North Coyote Wash Trail allows hikers to explore the front country in the Rincon Valley Area. This hike up a desert wash is complete with valley views and lots of desert vegetation to see along the way.
The North Coyote Wash Trail branches off of the
Ruiz Trail at its southern end, and hikers are greeted with a brief half-mile downhill to get to the wash. From here, the trail turns north, and follows the wash for a steady but gradual climb back to the
Hope Camp Trail. The trail winds around the base of several hills along the way, allowing hikers to enjoy the valley scenery and desert landscape.
The trail ends at a junction with the
Hope Camp Trail where you can turn left to return to the Camino Loma Alta Trailhead or turn right to continue your hike.
Flora & Fauna
The park is home to black bear, white-tailed deer, mountain lion, and coati, along with hundreds of birds, reptiles, insects, and amphibian species. You'll also be treated to saguaros and other desert cacti and vegetation.
