Description
This challenging trail takes hikers from the north end of the island at the end of the
Minong Ridge Trail to the south side of the island at Chippewa Harbor Camp. The trail traverses some rough and varied terrain along the way with many ups and downs to navigate.
From the start at the junction with the
Minong Ridge Trail, hikers will start an undulating climb heading past the
Chickenbone East trail and skirting the west side of Chickenbone Lake. The trail provides access to the West Chickenbone Lake Campground just north of the
Greenstone Ridge Trail.
After crossing the
Greenstone Ridge Trail, the trail continues south, passing the western edge of Lake Livermore and LeSage Lake. From here, the trail begins to wind back to the east to navigate around the northern edge of Lake Richie. The Lake Richie Campground is located about six miles into the trail shortly before the junction with the
Lake Richie Trail.
From the
Lake Richie Trail, the trail again heads south to the southern end of the lake where it follows along a stream to Chippewa Harbor and the campground by the harbor and Lake Mason.
