Description

From the trailhead near Hwy 191, follow Behind the Rocks road, staying left at the early fork nearly a half mile in. The road is gravelly for the first couple miles, after which it becomes more rocky with some very sandy sections.

Go as far as you like, then return the way you came, or tie into one of the many other trails in the area. This trail links into a large network of trails in the Prostitute Butte (aka Lone Rock) area, with options to connect to Hunter Canyon, Pritchett Canyon, 24-Hours of Moab Racecourse and Behind the Rocks.

Make sure to check out Prostitute Butte while you're in the area; this large Entrada sandstone formation boasts two arches and some impressive alcoves. As far as Prostitute Butte, the road is easy. Beyond, it becomes moderate.

About 3.5-miles after Prostitute Butte, the road begins to parallel the Kane Canyon Rim. There are some beautiful overlooks out on left turn spur roads in this stretch.

At roughly 6-miles past Prostitute Butte, the road bends right, away from the rim and drops down another 3-miles to a large cottonwood wash. Here, if you wish to continue all the way to the Colorado River rather than retracing your steps, you must decide whether you'll exit via Hunter Canyon Rim (left), or Pritchett Canyon (right). Both trails are beautiful and stout, but Pritchett is by far the easiest to find.
