Description
As you leave the campground, the trail will split off to the left of the
Rim Trail. You'll cross a boardwalk over a seasonal irrigation stream. The trail quickly drops down a few rock stairs and passes a little alcove that sometimes has a small waterfall.
A few more rock steps down and the trail levels out on a bench that is easy hiking. Around the corner and you start down again passing some erosion mitigation boards. Just past the boards is a switchback. This is the tricky part because it is not marked. Within a few feet of the switchback, the Rope De Dope trail will again switchback right. It's hard see if you are not looking for it, but the carefully laid stepping stones give it away. As soon as you make that turn you'll the top of the Rope-De-Dope climbing rock.
The trail continues down to the Rope De Dope rock and then bears right around the edge. There is a series of steps leading to the picnic area adjoining
Canyon Trail.
Please do not go around the rock to the left (south). This area is a restoration area.
If you go straight it will take you gradually down to the canyon floor where you'll join
Canyon Trail.
