Overview
This is a rolling paved trail that basically circles the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve. On the north side, you do have some options for horse trails to give you a bit of a true trail experience. You do spend a bit of time on the streets to complete the loop, but it's a small price to pay for a great loop.
Need to Know
Since it does go through some residential areas, there are some places to stop. Plus you can stop at one of the two nature centers along the way--they have water, too.
Description
This is a great hike in this part of the city, not far from the airport. If you're in town on a long layover, get out there and hike this, or at least a part of it. It is very well marked and follows the edges of the nature preserve, which makes it a great place to get off the city streets. This hike gives you views, trails, and wonderfully smooth paths. It can get a little tricky through the streets, but if you just hug the preserve, you'll do just fine.
