Description
The Summit Trail is the northern-most section of the Smith Rock State Park
Summit Loop Trail, and where the Smith Rock State Park
Summit Loop Trail gets its name.
From the top of
Burma Road you'll join several switchbacks that drop you in altitude. When the trail begins to straighten out you'll be at the top of the Monument Ridge. It is very easy to sneak over to the edge for some breathtaking views of the valley. Along the Summit Trail, there is a small viewpoint spur that takes you to another cliff edge. Plenty of open "High Desert" country to look at.
This section of the trail is pretty smooth and easy to walk, ride, or hike on. The slope is not as steep as the
Burma Road. As the trail swings back to the north it becomes the
River Trail at its connection with the
Mesa Verde Trail.
