An out and back with great views of Tucson. Good elevation gain/loss and plenty of wildlife around.

Description

This trail has great views of Tucson, and is an easy escape from the city to get into the desert.

Look for the trail at the northern end of the parking lot. The trail starts going uphill within the first quarter mile and gains a ridgeline before dropping down to a tank. It then climbs up to a saddle and gains a false summit before reaching a plateau before the final climb to the summit. The last half mile up to the summit is steep and has loose rocks. Be especially careful on the way down.

By my watch the trail was 5 miles (10 out and back) and 2,900 feet of vertical. The description says less than that by a considerable amount — 4h 30m
