This trail passes through two tracts of private land. Pleas do NOT leave the trail.

Description

On a weekend or workday evening, you'll likely be sharing this trail with dog walkers, other hikers and mountain bikers, so be courteous and alert.

From the parking lot, head off to the right on any of the trails and follow the contours of the top sandstone shelf. If you find yourself with sandstone cliffs above you, you've dropped down too far.

Near the start, the trail is mostly exposed rock and deeper sand (a great chance to work on your agility and rock-hopping abilities!) As you continue, the trail smoothes and firms up. After hikeiing through a few gullies, you pass through a gap in chain link fence, with a private property sign posted. Please make sure to stick to the existing trail until you reach the other side of the property (a half mile or less). At about 1.5 miles, the trail transitions onto sandstone, which is full of potholes, bumps, and all sorts of other hazards (more agility practice!).

As you approach the Indian Cliffs neighborhood, the trail turns away from the cliff and heads north for a few hundred yards, before ending at a gap in the fence. From here, you can continue on through the neighborhood to the Indian Cliffs trails, or turn around and head back along the Rims, enjoying the great views out across Billings!
