Overview

This is a great loop for a fairly "easy" hike up on Chuckanut that avoids the big climbs and most technical sections, though you still get a little bit of everything on this loop.

Need to Know

Requires Discovery Pass. Only space for 3-4 cars at the start. Another option is to start a mile up the road at the Fragrance Road Trailhead where there is parking for 4-5 cars.

Description

Start with a 1 mile climb up Dan's Traverse to the Chuckanut Ridge Trail. Turn left onto the ridge. You'll soon come to a great view of Mt. Baker on a clear day. Next you'll drop through a technical section for a short distance before looping around to an intersection with the North Lost Lake Trail. Take a right and continue on this wide, rolling trail. You'll see various trails to your left if you'd like to add distance, but those all involve steep climbs or more technical sections. Stay right and take a right at the next split in the trail.

You'll now start a long climb skirting Lost Lake which is down to your left. Pass the Rock Trail trailhead on your right and continue climbing. At the top of the climb, head right onto South Lost Lake Trail for a long sweeping downhill. When you come to Fragrance Lake Road, head right and continue straight ahead up another 0.75 mile climb which will take you to Cleator Road. Head left down Cleator Road for a mile back to the start.
