Description

Follow the Trail of the Shadows, located across the road from the National Park Inn at Longmire, to the trail junction. From Longmire, Rampart immediately ascends quite steeply to the ridge along some rooted switchbacks.

Generally looped in combination with Wonderland Trail, Rampart Ridge does continue northwest all the way to Comet Falls Trail, gradually ascending as it goes.

Started clockwise loop planning to take Wonderland down but ended up turning back on the ridge due to snow and postholes! Spikes advised for top!
