Description

From its junction with the Skyline Trail, the Pebble Creek trail heads steeply up the ridge towards McClure Rock. This is a great way to have an up close and personal experience with Rainier, instead of just seeing it from a distance. The challenging gradient and numerous snowfield crossings make this a memorable adventure. Some folks are glad for gaiters and microspikes. You'll likely share this high elevation ramble with climbers heading to the summit or back from it. Depending on the season, you may also see wildflowers and marmots.

Angle upwards through the Pebble Creek drainage and eventually reach this aptly-named, stream-filled, rock gully. This is the last source of filterable water besides melting snow. The views are amazing, making this a tempting spot to linger. Soon after rock-hopping across Pebble Creek, the trail ends at a junction with the Muir Snowfield route. For people not attempting to summit or reach the Camp Muir basecamp, this is the turn around point.
