Description

The Horse Trail officially starts from the corner of Limantour and Bear Valley Roads but can also be accessed from the Bear Valley Visitor Center using the Morgan Trail.

Horse Trail parallels Limantour Road on flat ground through open fields until the junction with the Morgan trail. Continuing on the Horse Trail from here, a steady, woodsy climb takes you up over the shoulder of Mt. Wittenberg. Numerous switchbacks fold up and over the dim ridgelines and through scraggly forest. At the junction with Z Ranch, the trail finally levels out and from here it is easy work to contour across to trail's end at the Sky Trail intersection. Note: bikes are not allowed on this trail.

Flora & Fauna

Tanoak, Douglas fir, bay, ferns, elderberry, blackberry, forget-me-nots.
